MATERIAL STRATEGIES IN SUSTAINABILITY

Join Parsons faculty Carolina Obregón, Oliver

Kellhammer, and Barent Roth, along with

Sustainable Systems students, for a

dynamic conversation on Material Strategies in

Sustainability. This in-person event will take place

at the UC’s Tishman Auditorium on Thursday,

March 20, at 12 - 1 PM.

Throughout history, material conditions have

shaped human progress. Today, amid a global

environmental crisis, designers and artists are

developing innovative material strategies to

address sustainability challenges, across multiple

disciplines. These include circular manufacturing

processes that transform plastic waste, as well

as biomaterials and biotechnologies that enable

scalable production with minimal environmental

impact and introduce regenerative cycles of

making.

Carolina, Oliver, and Barent will share insights

from their own work and showcase cutting-edge

materials practices from their students’ work as

well—highlighting the evolving role of design in

building a more sustainable future.
