2nd Nature Institute

I will be involved in a couple of events at this years 2nd Nature institute at Emily Carr University in Vancouver.

10:00 – 12:00 Open Source Landscape  Walk (Option 1)
Led by artist and botanist Oliver Kelhammer, this walk through False Creek examines the changing land use and landscape of our city.

12:30 – 2:00 Hothouse
An animated discussion between landscape architects, artists, and designers about the role creative practices play in transforming the relationship between the natural and built environment.  A collective discussion of the role of experimentation in creating sustainable environmental change will follow.

History of Cottonwood Gardens

Join me at the fantastic Cottonwood Community Gardens (adjacent to the south end of Strathcona Park, between Hawks and Raymur) for a talk about the history (I was one of the founders) and a tour of some of the more interesting botanical specimens we have growing there. We'll cover some basic principles of permculture and urban forestry as well.

Ten for Ten Talk

An evening to hear what 10 typographers, architects, product designers, shop owners, information designers and unclassifiable thinkers have been up to for the last 10 years: how their practice has evolved and how they came to be doing what they are today. Speakers include yours truly, Marianne Amodio (Architect, MAA Studio), Brian McBay (221A Artist Run Centre), Sarah Hay (Breavo and Vancouver Design Nerds), Tara Robertson (Emily Carr Library) and Caroline Boquist + Daniel Kozlowski (WALRUS). Each speaker will talk for 10 minutes.
